What this solves
Three things decide your Bali ride-hail cost: the route (Canggu → Kuta is short but slow; Ubud → anywhere is long but cheap), the time of day (morning rush and 22:00 club close-out both surge), and the service (Gojek car vs. Gojek motor vs. Grab vs. taxi). The airport fixed-price counter is a fourth option most travellers miss.
Who it's for. Travellers avoiding the scooter risk, families with luggage, night drivers, anyone quoted a Rp 400k "airport transfer" who wants to know if the meter would say Rp 90k.
Estimate a ride
How to read the result
- Cost band (Rp) is the realistic 2026 range, including time-of-day multiplier and possible surge. The lower bound is what you'd pay at off-peak without surge.
- Surge probability is a directional read — 80% means almost certain, 20% means you'd be unlucky to hit one.
- Expected wait is for the app, not the road. At 22:00 on a Saturday in Canggu, expect 15–25 min.
- Use fixed-price instead? flags when the airport fixed-price counter beats the app.
Limitations
- Gojek and Grab occasionally "soft block" certain routes (Ubud has no car service outside Ubud town; airport pickup is restricted at DPS). The tool gives a directional answer.
- Surge is real-time; this is a probability band, not a guarantee. A bad accident on Sunset Road can hold prices at 2.5x for an hour.
- Blue Bird taxis use a meter; refusal to use the meter is illegal but common. Always insist, or use the app.
- This tool assumes the Bali tourist levy and tolls. The Bali Mandara toll adds Rp 12k to south-Bali routes.
FAQ
Is the airport fixed-price counter cheaper than the app?
For Kuta / Seminyak / Sanur, often yes — the DPS fixed-price taxi counter charges Rp 100–130k (zone-based), which beats app surge at peak hours. For Canggu, Ubud, or Bukit, app metered or fixed-price can be cheaper. Always walk past the touts and use the official counter.
Why does Gojek refuse Ubud → Canggu?
Gojek Car is restricted inside Ubud (the regency limits car-hailing near the palace). You can take Gojek inside Ubud but not as a through-route to Canggu. The workaround: take Gojek to the Ubud bus terminal or payong market, switch to a taxi or pre-booked driver for the long haul.
How do I avoid late-night surge?
Wait 20–30 min past 02:00 — the bulk of the Canggu / Seminyak club crowd disperses by 02:30 and the surge lifts. Alternatively, walk 10–15 min away from the club zone; the surge zone is usually a tight radius around the venue.
Cash or app payment?
App payment (GoPay / OVO / GrabPay) avoids cash but drivers sometimes claim the app doesn't work. Carry small notes for Gojek motor; carry exact change for taxis. Cash tip is not expected on app rides.
